Gross-Gerau: Successful delivery of the Sports Hall "Prälat-Diehl-School"

The enrollment of the fifth graders at the Prälat -Diehl-School (PDS) will take place in the new sports hall, which serves also as the school auditorium.

Teachers, parents and students will participate in the official opening by the school principal in the middle of August.

"The hall offers 500 seats," says Klaus Peter Hörnlein, the project manager and points out to the front of the hall. Behind the divider is a mobile stage platform that can be moved out for events".Since August 2009, construction is going on under the management of the general contractor Sport StadiaNet GmbH. The hall from the fifties was torn down and excavators and cranes moved in for the construction of the new building. "We assigned the installation of the sanitary facilities and the fitting of the large hall window to regional contractors," said project manager Klaus Peter Hörnlein.

The total area of the 1.3 million Euro construction project amounts to 808 m2. The hall area measures 405 m2. Adjoining rooms, locker rooms and hallways are occupying 403 m2. The heat recovery system and a photovoltaic system for hot water supply, installed on the roof, are evidence of an energy-saving technology. Sustainability through the wise use of resources is extremely important. 18 degree centigrade is the preferred temperature in the hall. A barrier-free access and disabled toilets are standard. The hall will be used by the school and by local sports clubs. Clear lines dominate the overall impression, tiled hallways and cool colors contrast with the red hall floor.

Klaus Peter Hörnlein: "We completed our work and delivered the hall on time".The further interior work is progressing quickly, so that the official opening can take place in mid-August".
